a modern oasis

Nestled in the central New Jersey countryside, with a horse barn next door, this 20K square foot home was originally designed with a french country style. The owner had grown tired of it and requested a more modern, clean, livable space. Relocating a set of french doors from the angled corner of the family room to the octagonal breakfast room and adding an exterior stone deck to connect them to the existing patio allowed for a new flow to the home. An ultra-wide modern, metal and wood horizontally-clad gas fireplace replaced the traditional columned wood burning unit to provide a beautiful new focal point to the room. The television was slightly recessed on the opposite wall as a design feature. The new lighting in both the kitchen and breakfast room became design centerpieces. Upper cabinetry was fully embedded with the lowers remaining half exposed.  Super thick marble tops and stained glass backsplash combined old materials in a more modern design. The subzero refrigerators were also embedded into the drywall, and extra stainless cabinetry to match them increased their height, creating stainless steel towers to emphasize the beauty of the vintage french icebox we used as a pantry. The custom stainless steel hardware for the icebox tied in with the long bars on the cabinetry, and the stainless minimalism of the appliances. All aspects of the design and furniture combine to provide an aesthetic that is both timeless and upscale.

Absolutely Stunning!

“Knowing what is necessary and making that happen are two different things. Liza worked with us to clarify the design, and sought out just the right materials to answer our needs - such as a glass island countertop so stains were no issue. Her understanding of function and flow in the space, and how to choose materials to best suite those requirements made her invaluable to our project.”
